Hi, I am
Dr. Alveta Green

Candidate for Virginia Beach School Board District 4

Meet Dr. Green - Retired Educator

I am Dr. Alveta Green, a candidate for Virginia Beach School Board District 4. I retired from Virginia Beach City Public Schools in 2022 as the Executive Director of Student Support Services after 39 years in public education.  Prior to coming to VBCPS where I spent 17 years, I was a teacher, school counselor, administrator, and Specialist  with the Virginia Department of Education. I received my  Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling degrees from Virginia State University. I also earned a Doctorate in Education Administration and Policy Studies from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

My Platform

I want to represent District 4 to ensure our students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development through governance and policies.

  • I am committed to competitive pay for teacher retention and recruitment.
  • I am focused on equitable distribution of student resources as well as supportive of mental health resources for students and staff.
  • I am dedicated to student-preparation for on-time graduation and college/career readiness.

Ensuring Equal Access to Quality Education

Empowering all students to reach their full potential by fostering a supportive and inclusive educational environment.

Committed To Education

I am your advocate for school board policies to ensure successful outcomes for all students by removing barriers to learning for any social or cultural factor that may impact equal opportunities and access.

Through collaboration with other school board members, I will set the vision and goals of Virginia Beach City Public Schools and measure the success of the division and superintendent against these goals.

All constituents will stay informed of the division’s progress and challenges. I will always communicate the needs of our students and division to government at the local and state levels by advocating for strong Virginia Beach City Public Schools.

Today I had the privilege of attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony and opening of the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Virginia Beach, District 4, on the Virginia Wesleyan University campus. I am thrilled about the numerous educational opportunities available for our students and the community at the new Virginia MOCA. Creating a sign for the 'I Am' exhibit was a fun experience, and I enjoyed the landmark solo exhibition by Nina Chanel Abney, a prominent voice in contemporary art. 'The Pursuit of Happiness' is a thought-provoking collection of paintings, collages, and sculptures that encourages self-reflection during these uncertain times. Please take the time to visit the new Virginia MOCA museum. ... See MoreSee Less
